Job Description Job Description Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Heavy Truck Driver. As a Heavy Truck Driver for WCRC you would perform manual labor in the operation of light to heavy duty trucks and motorized equipment to repair and maintain trunkline, primary/local roads and right-of-way. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Operates heavy-duty dump trucks with snowplows, underbody blades, sand and salt spreaders and liquid applications to remove ice and snow accumulation from roadways. Performs manual labor; digs ditches; cleans and installs culverts; removes debris from roadway and shoulders; loads and unloads tools, equipment and materials. Serves as traffic regulator on road maintenance crews; directs traffic around hazards or crews in the roadway; sets out temporary road signs, traffic cones and barricades at work sites. Operates trucks, trailers and related equipment; hauls and dumps road maintenance and repair materials, including asphalt, rock, liquid asphalt, dirt and culvert pipes; loads and transports road equipment. Operates chain saw, skid steer, chipper and related equipment to remove and/or trim fallen and existing trees and brush. Performs pre-trip/post-trip inspections, minor servicing, adjustment and maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Performs crack seal operations that involve guiding emulsion wands over cracks in the roadway; fills cracks with hot bituminous emulsion and shovels stone chips from back of vehicle. Keeps assigned vehicles and equipment clean, orderly and equipped with necessary tools and supplies. Records materials, supplies, time and equipment used for each work project for proper billing or record keeping. REQUIREMENTS One (1) year of experience in highway maintenance, highway or building construction, farming, forestry or landscaping or any labor intensive work experience that directly involves the skills required to operate machinery, small tools, power tools, vehicles and equipment. A high school diploma or equivalent. A valid Michigan Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Ability to provide 24-hour on-call services. Must be able to respond within one hour for a call-in.
